During the month of March, North Haven High School will administer the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT). The CAPT is the standard assessment administered to students in Grade 10. Students are assessed in the content areas of reading, mathematics, writing and science. The results will be provided to students at the beginning of the next school year, when they are received form the state.

All sophomores will take the CAPT on March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14. Juniors who did not achieve a passing score last year on any sections will retake those sections on the same schedule as the sophomores. Freshmen will participate in practice sessions on four of the test dates: March 5, 7, 13, and 14.   See the school calendar and attached schedule for exact times.

The CAPT provides information about achievement that is used for many purposes including:

    • establishing high performance standards for all Grade 10 students on a comprehensive range of important skills and knowledge;
    • emphasizing the application and integration of skills and knowledge in realistic contexts;
    • promoting better instruction and curriculum by providing information on student, school, and district strengths and weaknesses; and
    • providing an expanded measure of accountability for Connecticut’s educational system at the high school level.

To administer the test efficiently, the high school schedule will be adjusted on test days.

The tests will be administered beginning at 7:33 a.m. All classes will meet during test days, with the start of classes delayed and classes shortened. Dismissal will remain at 2:00 p.m. Students not required to take the CAPT or practice tests may arrive late to coincide with classes but will need their own transportation. The bus schedule will remain the same. If these students take the bus or arrive prior to classes, they may work independently in the library or cafeteria.

Please contact Mr. Andrew A. Pettola, the test coordinator, if you have questions concerning this schedule or the CAPT.
